Doug Davis

Doug Davis, Class of 1981, played football, basketball, & baseball during his career at Central Columbia. He was a member of the 1981 PIAA AA State Championship basketball team. In football he was the All-Anthracite punter his junior year. In baseball he was the Columbia County League MVP both his junior and senior year. He also played on the USA All Star Team during the summer of 1981, playing on a European Tour. Doug went on to play baseball for three year at North Carolina State University.

He was drafted in 1984 by the California Angels in the 9th round. Doug played eleven years in the minor league systems of the California Angels and the Texas Rangers. He made his major league debut with the California Angels, playing a short time in the majors.

From 1996-2000 Doug was a minor league manager in the New York Mets organization, winning three league championships and a divisional championship. He was also named Sporting News Minor League Manager of the Year in 1998. Doug was the bench coach for the Florida Marlins for two seasons, including the 2003 season when the Marlins won the World Series. He was also Florida's catching and base running coach for a year. In 2006, Doug was the manager of the Toronto Blue Jays' AA team in New Hampshire and since 2007 he has been the manager of their AAA team in Syracuse.
Doug also runs the Doug Davis Baseball and Softball Academy in Bloomsburg. Doug currently lives in Mt. Pleasant Township with his wife Mary Jane and three children Austin, Rachel and Cade.

Buddy Hartman

Buddy Hartman was a long time teacher, coach, and athletic director, starting his career at the Scott Township High School and retiring from Central Columbia after thirty-nine years. During his tenure at Scott and Central Buddy was the head coach for soccer, both boys and girls basketball, cross country, golf, baseball, boy's tennis, and bowling. He also was an assistant coach for baseball, track and field, football, and softball. In soccer his teams won six Columbia County League championships and six District IV championships. In girls basketball his teams won eight Columbia County League championships and six District IV championships with his 1973-74 team finishing third in the state. In golf his teams won a Columbia County League championship and a District IV championship. In baseball he was assistant coach for two Columbia County League championships and a District IV championship. Buddy received the Dedicated Service Award from the Eastern Football Conference and the Distinguished Service Award from the Pennsylvania Basketball Association - District IV Athletic Directors.

Buddy and his wife, Shirley have two children, Tim and MaryAnn, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Buddy and Shirley currently live in Espy.

Paul Hartzell

Paul Hartzell graduated in 1971. He ran cross country and played both basketball and baseball during his career at Central Columbia. During his senior year he was a captain of the first District IV basketball championship team in school history. He was also a member of the 1971 Columbia County League baseball championship team. During his basketball career Paul scored 1,249 points and had 992 rebounds, and was named AP/UPI First Team All State during his senior year. He also was the MVP of the Columbia County League in baseball.

Paul graduated from Lehigh University with a degree in mechanical engineering and played both basketball and baseball. In baseball he was named MVP of AAABA National Baseball tournament in 1973. He was named All-American NBC Tournament and to the USA All-Star Baseball Team in 1974. In 1975 Paul was named to the MAC first team and set the all time Lehigh record for complete games in one season with 10 complete games and a 1.66 ERA in 92 innings.

Paul was drafted by the California Angels in the eleventh round in 1975 and assigned to Davenport of the Class A Midwest League. In 1976 he was third runner-up for the American League Rookie of the Year, posting a 7-4 record with a 2.77 ERA, while pitching 166 innings for the Angels. Paul also played for the Minnesota Twins, Baltimore Orioles, and Milwaukee Brewers. Paul pitched 703 innings, had a 3.90 ERA, with 27 wins and 12 saves for his career. He is ranked seventh in California Angels history in ERA and second in least walks per nine innings.

In 1998 he was elected to the Lehigh Sports Hall of Fame. Paul is currently Senior Vice President of Merrill Data Site. Paul and his wife Andrei have two children, Brook and Blair. They currently live in Hailey, Idaho and New York City.

Rob Meldrum

Rob Meldrum, Class of 1987 played football, wrestled, and was on the Track & Field team during his career at Central Columbia. In wrestling Rob was a three time District IV sectional champion, two time District IV champion, two time PIAA Northeastern Regional Champion, and two time PIAA State Champion. During his senior year he was 31 & 0 and during his career he was 102 - 21.

Rob went on to graduate from the US Military Academy, obtaining a BS in Civil Engineering & Environmental Science. During his career at the academy Rob was a four year letter winner in wrestling. Rob attained the rank of US Army Captain and employed by Exxon-Mobil Oil Company as a regional field representative. Rob is married to Clara Jane (Luker), they have two children, John and Maryn and currently live in Greenville, Indiana.

1981 Boys Basketball Team

The 1980-1981 Blue Jays basketball team coached by Duane Ford and assisted by Tony DaRe won the PIAA AA State Championship. They compiled a record of 31 & 4, also winning the PIAA District IV AA championship along the way.

Members of the team included Brian DeWitt, David Karpinski, Tony Creveling, Alan Kemmerer, Terry Sitler, Scott Cole, Doug Davis, Mark Decker, Steve Kriner, Joel Novak, and Tom Church.

1991 Baseball Team

The 1991 Blue Jays baseball team coached by Don Engle and assisted by Jerry Devlin, captured a PIAA AA State Championship in 1991.They compiled a 25 & 1 record, also winning the Mid Penn League Championship and the AA PIAA District IV Championship along the way.

Members of the team were Aaaron Vezendy, Stuart Hartman, Jeremy Zeisloft, Jason Foura, Bryan Claytor, Michael Lackner, James Kagenski, Brett Hock, Brian Klingerman, Matthew Ritter, Shane Devlin, Brad Fenstermacher, Anthony Shaffer, Jody Zeisloft, John Williams, Michael DiPippa, Eric Novak, Brett Sarnoski, Bradley Keller, Steven Chamberlain, Shawn McCabe, David Stoker, Franklin Reese, and Aaron Campbell.

1994 Softball Team

The 1994 Blue Jays softball team coached by Duane Ford and assisted by John Rakich won the PIAA AA State Championship. They went undefeated with a record of 28 & 0. They also won the Mid Penn League Championship and PIAA District IV AA Championship along the way.

Members of the team were Jen Antolick, Mandy Gehrig, Autumn Spaide, Lauren Freas, Jessica Sitler, Jocelyn Bishop, Amie Schreier, Tonya Guther, Stacey Force, Michelle Lamon, Abbey Ford, Holly Eyerly, Kristen Mertz, Lindsey Hattersley, Lindsey Ritter, - Angie Wagner, Kristen Maertz, Amanda Ledger, Laurel Freas, Nicole Nuss, Autumn Spaide, Jen Antolick, Amanda Gehrig, Angie Klingerman, Paula Bisiar, Yoko Kawashima, Christy Lemon, Michelle Lamon, Abbey Ford, Julie Novak, Lindsay Ritter, Lindsey VanHouten, Jessica Sitler, Lindsey Hattersley, Jocelyn Bishop, Letitia Reichart, Lauren Ruckle, and Amy Yoder. This was the first District 4 AA softball team to win a State Championship and remains the only team, in any sport, in Central history to post an undefeated record throughout the regular season, district playoffs and the PIAA State Tournament.
