Inductees to the Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2003

Steve Bright

Steve Bright is a 1974 graduate. He played tennis and basketball during his career at Central Columbia. In basketball he was a Susquehanna Valley League All Star his junior and senior years, an All-Anthracite All Star his senior year, and was All State his senior year. Steve is the boy's basketball all-time leading scorer with 1,546 points and he also grabbed 1,013 rebounds in his career. He led the 1973 team to the District IV championship.

Steve went on to graduate from Bloomsburg State College, lettering in basketball all four years. He was a Co-Captain his senior year and scored 1,017 points and had 621 rebounds during his career. He and his wife, Judy, have four children, Justin, Ashley, Matthew, and Kevin. They currently live in Gotha, Florida.

Kristin Maneval

Kristin Maneval is a 1995 graduate. She played basketball and tennis during her career at Central Columbia. In basketball she was the starting point guard all four years. She was a member of the 1994 and 1995 Mid Penn Conference championship teams. Kristin was the MVP of the Mid-Penn League, a District 4 All-Star, and District 4 Outstanding Female Athlete during her senior year. She was the first female from Central to score over 1,000 points in basketball, scoring 1,265 points during her career. In tennis Kristin played at the number one singles position all four years, won the District IV Individual championship her senior year, and had a 44 & 9 career record.

Kristin went on to graduate from Millersville University. While at Millersville she played tennis all four years at the number one singles position. She played in the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships three years, won the Number One Flight Singles Championship in 1998 and was named the PSAC Tennis Player of the Year. Kristin is currently a teacher and Head Tennis coach at Lancaster County Day School. She resides in Millersville, PA.

Diane Ohl Pickett

Diane Ohl Pickett is a 1985 graduate. She played golf during her career at Central Columbia. She placed third in District IV as a freshman, second as a junior, and won the District IV Championship as a sophomore and senior. She qualified for states all four years, placing seventeenth as a sophomore, ninth as a junior, and second as a senior.

Diane went on to graduate from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She was a scholarship member of the women's golf team. Diane was a NCAA Division I Academic All-American, and then coached the UAB women's golf team for one year after graduating with degrees in accounting and history. Diane is a CPA and the owner of an Accounting and Auditing Practice. She is married to Bob Pickett and they have two children, David and Rachel. They currently live in Overland Park, Kansas.

John Williams

John Williams is a 1992 graduate. He played golf, swam, and played baseball. In swimming John was a member of the 1989-1992 District IV championship teams. He was an eleven time District IV Individual Champion. John held seven school records and four District IV records. During his junior year John finished sixth in the state (All Schools) in the 100 Backstroke and during his senior year John finished third. He was selected Northeastern PA Swimming League MVP both his junior and senior years and was also selected All State his junior and senior year.

In baseball John was a member of the 1991 Class AA state championship team, four Mid-Penn Conference championship teams, and two District IV championship teams. He was selected Reading Eagle Anthracite MVP during his senior year.

John went on to graduate from Clarion University were he swam four years and played baseball two years. In swimming John was a nine time PSAC Champion and a seven time NCAA Division II All-American. In baseball John was the PSAC-West Batting Champion his senior year. John currently works for Dick's Clothing & Sporting Goods in Colorado Springs, Colorado and lives in Castle Rock, Colorado.

1974 Girls Basketball Team

The 1973-74 girls basketball team coached by Buddy Hartman, advanced to the PIAA Eastern Finals and finished with a 17-1 record. Along the way they won the Columbia County League championship with a 12 & 0 record and the District IV Championship, beating Northwest, Berwick, Lourdes, and Wyalusing. In the state playoffs they defeated Mid-Valley and then lost to Lancaster Catholic in the Eastern State Final.

Members of the team were Doris Wilson Cochran, Karen Johnson, Sharon Crawford Reichard, Diana Welch Everett, Loni Nevel, Sharon Beagle Ahern, Cathy Carter Finley, Lisa Hopkins, Cindy Comstock Connor, Debbie Karchner Smith, Debbie Knorr, Margaret Murphy Albertson, Bonnie Knorr Hess, Cindy Gass McBryan, Kay Pope Wolf, Debbie Everett-Moschitta, and Debbie Yank France. The team managers were Sally Sitler and Joni Crawford Anderson.
