Jeff Baird

Jeff Baird

Jeff Baird is a 2002 graduate. He was a two-time state champion in track. As a junior Jeff won the Susquehanna Valley League and District IV 110 High Hurdles and finished 8th in states. Also as a junior, Jeff won the Susquehanna Valley League, District IV, and state 300 Intermediate Hurdles. As a senior Jeff again won the Susquehanna Valley League and District IV 110 High Hurdles and again won the Susquehanna Valley League, District IV, and State 300 Intermediate Hurdles. Jeff was undefeated in dual meets both his junior and senior years in the 110 high Hurdles and the 300 Intermediate Hurdles. He is also the school recordholder in both the 110 high Hurdles and the 300 Intermediate Hurdles.

Jeff attended North Carolina State, was on the track team three years, and placed 7th in the ACC 400 Meter Hurdles. Jeff went on to graduate from Penn State with a BS in Health Policy & Administration - Pre Med Curriculum. Jeff is currently working as a Staff Consultant for McBee Associates, Inc., a health care consulting firm in Philadelphia. Jeff is the son of John & Marsha Baird of Bloomsburg. Jeff has two brothers, Matt & Kevin.

Lanny Diltz

Lanny Diltz

Lanny Diltz, Class of 1964, was a three-sport athlete, playing football, basketball, and baseball during his career. In football he was named to the Susquehanna Valley League 1st team as a quarterback his senior year. In basketball he was named to the Susquehanna Valley League 1st team, to the WHLM all star 1st team, and to the Danville All-Opponent All Star team during his senior year. In baseball Lanny played on three Columbia County League playoff championship teams and Central Columbia's first District IV championship team as a pitcher and second baseman.

He went on to Bloomsburg State Teachers College, playing baseball for two years and graduating with a degree in Elementary Education. Lanny is the secretary/treasurer of Yoder Insurance, Inc. of Danville and is a board member of the Independent Insurance Agents of PA. He lives in Danville with his wife of thirty years, Debra. They have one son, Matthew.

Loni Nevel

Loni Nevel

Loni Nevil is a 1975 graduate. She was a three-sport athlete, playing field hockey, basketball, and softball during her career. In basketball Loni was a member of three Columbia County League championship teams and a District IV championship team. In softball she was also a member of three Columbia County League Championship teams, two of which were undefeated.

She went on to earn All-American status in college and was a member of NCAA Regional Championship teams in both basketball and softball at Slippery Rock State College. She also set AAU World Power Lifting Records in several categories while still in college and continued to win numerous body building titles over the next decade. After a tour of duty in the United States Air Force in Hawaii, Loni became the Pacific Regional Fitness Director for the U.S. Department of Defense and, later took on the additional duties as Sports Director for the DOD in the European Region. Loni is currently the Deployed Forces Support Program Manager in San Diego, CA. She currently resides in Chula Vista, California.

Duane Powlus

Duane Powlus

Duane Powlus is a 1977 graduate. He was three-year varsity wrestler. During Duane's sophomore year his record was 16 and 2, with 7 pins. During his junior year his record was 17 and 1, with 13 pins. During his senior year his record was 27 and 2, with 11 pins. Duane was a three-time Columbia County Christmas Tournament champion. During Duane's senior year he was a sectional champion, district runner up, and a state qualifier. He was a Susquehanna Valley Conference 1st team all star, an Anthracite 1st team all star, and he was selected one of the top 100 wrestlers in the state his senior year. He was also selected to the Central Pennsylvania all star team which wrestled an Ohio State all star team. Duane was one of only three Pennsylvania wrestlers to win.

Duane currently works as a foreman for Knowlton & Sons Masonry out of Scranton. Duane still lives in the Bloomsburg area.

Glen Spaid

Glen Spaid

Glen Spaid is a 1954 graduate (Scott Township High School). He was a three-sport athlete, playing soccer, basketball, and baseball during his career. He earned twelve letters, lettering in all three sports all four years of his career. Glen was also a Co-Captain in both soccer and basketball. During the four years Glen played soccer the soccer team won the Columbia County League championship three years and the District IV championship two years. During the four years Glen played basketball, the basketball team won the Bloomsburg State Teachers Tournament, a Columbia County League championship, and a District IV championship. Glen was named the Outstanding Athlete his senior year.

He went on to Penn State, played soccer his freshman year, and was named Co-Captain. He then transferred to Bloomsburg State Teachers College, graduating with a degree in mathematics. Glen then went on to teach for thirty-seven years, thirty-five at Central Columbia. He also was a head coach of boys & girls basketball for three years each, boy's tennis for 25 years, girl's tennis for 15 years, and bowling for twenty-six years. Glen was also an assistant coach in football, basketball, and cross-country.

He is retired and lives in Carroll Park, PA, with his wife of forty-eight years, Susie, who is also a retired teacher from Central Columbia. They have two children, Virginia and Patricia and they also have three grandchildren.

1963 Baseball Team

1963 Baseball Team

The 1963 baseball team coached by the late Bill Creasy, who was assisted by Buddy Hartman, won Central Columbia's first district championship in baseball. Central played six exhibition games, going 4 & 2. They opened with a lost to Danville, then beat Danville, Northwest, & West Hazleton, before losing to Bloomsburg and beating Southern Columbia. In the Columbia County League, Central went 4 & 3. They beat Bloomsburg, lost to Millville & Southern Columbia, beat Benton, Berwick & Shamokin, before losing to Nescopeck. Central finished in a three way tie for third place. They then beat Shamokin & Southern Columbia to take third place in the league. Central opened the league playoffs by playing second place Benton. In the first game they tied 5-5 after 9 innings. In the second game they again tied 5-5 after 9 innings. In the third game Central won 6-4 in 10 innings. Central then faced the regular season champion Nescopeck in a best of three championship series. Central beat Nescopeck 3-0 in the first game & 11-2 in the second game. In the District IV playoffs they defeated Danville, the Susquehanna Valley League Champions, 7-1 to win the District IV Southern Division Championship. They then beat Wellsboro, the Northern Division Champion, 10-6 in the District IV championship played at Bowman Field in Williamsport, under the lights.
